This plant simultaneously generates electricity and heat, as a result of which it has a higher yield. The heat is transmitted to the houses over a heat grid to supply space heating and hot water. The CO2 emission is hereby reduced by 650 ton CO2, which corresponds to the CO2 absorption of 160 acres of woods.]]>

<uitleg><![CDATA[The new housing estate Oosterheem in the city of Zoetermeer comprises 3000 houses. Together with the municipality of Zoetermeer and project developers, Eneco has been working on a solution for the supply of space heating and warm tap water. The current thermal power plant fulfils the heating demand of the entire estate. The two sets of generators in the thermal power plant in Oosterheem each consist of a CAT gas motor of the type G3520C backed by a 10 kV generator of the type SR4B. The electrical capacity of both sets amounts to a total of 4016 kW and the thermal capacity to a total of 4646 kW.The plant supplies warm water with a maximum temperature of 105 °C which is used for space heating and tap water. Four central heating boilers with a capacity of 5 MW each have also been installed to meet peak heating demands. There is also a large, integrated heat buffer of 350 m3, to reduce the number of times the motors have to start and stop and to meet peak heating demands. One of the boilers serves as a back-up. The heat supplied by the two CAT gas motors and four central heating boilers, is sufficient to heat the entire estate even under the coldest circumstances. Even though the installation can handle extreme situations, it is expected that the boilers will only have to assist for about 600 hours per year. In general, the Caterpillars will be able to handle the job by themselves.]]>

Over a heat and C02 distribution grid, the heat and CO2 are transmitted to a horticultural area of approximately 750 acres in Bergschenhoek and Bleiswijk. This is the only project in which both heat and CO2 is supplied to the greenhouse horticultural sector in The Netherlands and where an average heat coverage percentage of 85% is attained. With this project, CO2-emission is substantially reduced.]]>
